After getting off to a 28-21 start and seeming poised to endtheir 16-season playoff drought, the third-seeded Sacramento Kingsare a buyer as the 2023 NBA trade deadline approaches.
The Kings are looking to add "a more defensive-minded option onthe perimeter" and they are "monitoring the availability ofPhiladelphia's Matisse Thybulle," according to NBA insider Marc Stein.
It makes sense that Sacramento is looking to bolster theirdefense with a trade. The Kings have the NBA's second-best offense(scoring 115.3 points per 100 possessions), but their defense hasstruggled and currently ranks 24th in the league (allowing 112.7points per 100 possessions).
Thybulle has developed a reputation as one of the game's bestperimeter defenders. In each of the last two seasons, Thybulle wasselected to the All-Defensive Second Team.
Last season, the 25-year-old led the NBA in steal percentage(3.4%) while ranking third in Defensive Box Plus/Minus (+3.3) andfourth in steals per game (1.7).
