Only Fans boxer Elle Brooke dropped ex-UFC star Paige VanZant in their fight that was controversially scored a draw.
VanZant was making her boxing debut having not competed since her bare-knuckle defeat to Rachael Ostovich almost three years ago. Brooke started strong in the opening round by flooring VanZant with a big right hand, but she beat the count and made it back to her feet to see the next round.
Both women had their moments in the following rounds and the evenly-contested fight was scored 48-46, 46-48, 47-47 by the judges after the final bell. The controversial decision was met with boos by the Texas crowd and Brooke insisted that she did enough to get the win.
"I think I started strong but one of Paige's best assets is she doesn't let a bad round effect the next one, I think if anything she got stronger at the end of the fight whereas I dipped," Brooke said. "I mean it's one of those things, you have to rewatch it because when you're in there you're getting hit but you're also hitting.
"I don't think I'm experienced enough to think, 'I'm 100 per cent winning this' but because of the knockdown I can see me winning it but I'll have to watch it back. I was just saying to Paige, we now we get a big money rematch! This is perfect." VanZant has since called for a second fight against Brooke in August at The O2 arena in London.
"I said it would be a tough fight, the whole camp. I knew how tough she was, I took the fight for a reason. I was excited, I watched her past fights I knew it would be tough. It is what it is it sets up the perfect rematch." Misfits Boxing boss Mams Taylor confirmed the rematch will take place on Brooke's soil later this year.
"Elle came out here on Paige's turf now Paige is going to return the favour now in the UK. It was decided in that very ring moments after the announcement of it being a draw. They both want it. Let's run it back," he said.
