Astute boxing fans have noticed a problem with Mike Tyson's latest training video ahead of his fight with Jake Paul.
Heavyweight legend Tyson will take on Paul this summer in a controversial fight which was last week given the green light to be staged as a professional bout. The rivals will clash over eight two-minute rounds and wear 14oz gloves instead of the customary 10oz gloves normally worn.
Tyson will be 58 when the first bell rings, almost 30 years older than Paul, and fans have expressed concern for the former undisputed champion. He has posted several apparently impressive training videos showing he retains his legendary speed and power, but eagle-eyed fans have spotted that they only last for a few seconds.
"There’s a reason this is just six seconds long," one said about Tyson's latest video in which he asked Paul if he was "ready or not?". Another social media user said: "Bro I love you but I don’t think it’s a wise move." And two other fans suspected there was some editing and craft camera work going on. "Edits go hard lololol," said one, while the other added: "The camera is doing its job too."
Tyson himself has admitted to being bed-bound for a week after filming a previous training session. Speaking to Tyson, podcast host Joe Rogan said: "When I was watching you hit the pads, I was thinking, 'This isn't just working out'. There was something going on man. When you were working out with [trainer Rafael] Cordero and you were ripping into the body and throwing those hooks, I was like, 'This is a man who is preparing to go to combat. That's why, when I saw the video, I was like..."
Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk are set to lock horns in a huge bout on May 18 with each fighter attempting to etch their name in boxing history as the first undisputed heavyweight champion since 1999. The stakes couldn't be higher as the pair will go head to head for the prestigious WBC, WBA, WBO, and IBF titles.
Tyson jumped in to say: "You want me to tell you something about that video? I did that video and I was in bed for a week. That was 30 seconds and I was in bed for a week. And it's not funny, because it made me realise this is big boy s***." But some fans have been impressed with Tyson's training footage, with one saying: "Fifty seven years old and the power in that punch looks unreal!"
