Jake Paul claims he is 'fearful' of Mike Tyson after watching his boxing rival's training videos.
YouTube star Jake Paul will take on heavyweight legend Mike Tyson in Texas this summer in a boxing fight which has provoked controversy. Former undisputed world champion Tyson has posted some questionable videos of training ahead of his return to the ring at the age of 58.
And while fans were left unconvinced by the footage, Paul claims it has put him on alert. Asked if he was nervous watching Tyson hit pads, Paul told his BS With Jake Paul podcast: "Yeah, he was sprinting! It's motivating I think. It's good to carry fear into the ring and with you on a daily basis when you're training because it makes you better.
"It excites me that I have my toughest and craziest and most powerful opponent to date. The challenge of going to heavyweight is fun; it's a benefit because I've been eating a lot of pasta. He definitely is looking like a f***ing animal. I will say people are underestimating me. When I go to his comments, they're saying if Mike loses then fighting is rigged.
"They see how good he looks on the mitts but Mike looking good on the mitts is not even half the battle, he's got to face me in the ring. I think he might be seeing these videos and his confidence is growing."
Tyson, meanwhile, insists he can still compete despite his advancing years. He has not fought professionally since he retired on his stool after five rounds against Kevin McBride in 2005. He did take on fellow legend Roy Jones Jr in an exhibition bout in 2020 with the heavyweights scrapping to a bore draw.
But Tyson said: "I'm very much looking forward to stepping into the ring with Jake Paul. He's grown significantly as a boxer over the years, so it will be a lot of fun to see what the will and ambition of a ‘kid’ can do with the experience and aptitude of a GOAT. It's a full circle moment that will be beyond thrilling to watch; as I started him on his boxing journey on the undercard of my fight with Roy Jones and now I plan to finish him."
