Jake Paul was once offered a world title fight - but defeat would have seen him have to quit boxing, preventing him from facing Mike Tyson next month.
YouTuber Paul and former heavyweight champion Tyson will do battle on July 20 at the AT&T Arena in Texas in a professionally sanctioned bout.
Tyson, who retired almost two decades ago and will be 58 when the pair meet in the ring, must pass heart and brain scans before he is allowed to compete.
Paul's last bout came against Ryan Bourland, with the 27-year-old knocking his opponent out in the first round - three years after The Problem Child was offered a cruiserweight world title clash.
At that point, Paul was 3-0 having beaten fellow social media influencer AnEsonGib, NBA player Nate Robinson and ex-UFC fighter Ben Askren all via TKO.
A video featuring Mairis Briedis, released by promoter Kalle Sauerland, then emerged online, with the cruiserweight champion calling out Paul.
The Wasserman boxing boss tweeted alongside the clip: "Hey Jake Paul - happy to arrange you taking a shot at Mairis Briedis' belts, only condition if you lose you have to leave boxing... Deal?"
Paul snubbed the opportunity that would have undoubtedly seen him have to quit boxing but went on to fight a further six times before signing a contract to face the legendary heavyweight.
The 27-year-old lost only once in that time against Tyson Fury's brother Tommy, with the Love Island star winning via a split decision.
Paul's upcoming fight with Tyson has sparked major criticism from onlookers, with British boxing icon Ricky Hatton among those to hit out at the spectacle.
The Hitman, who labelled the fight "completely crazy", recently told Lord Ping: "Someone needs to have a word and try and stop it from happening.
"I've always said that the influencer fighting game is entertainment, and I've never really had an issue with influencer boxing; UFC fighters fighting boxers, YouTubers fighting rappers, whatever it is.
"If people want to watch it, then that's fine. Let's call it what it is, entertainment. Mike is looking good for his fifty-eight years – I wouldn't mind looking like him at that age – he looks explosive.
"Trust me, if he can hit Jake Paul on the chin, he'll knock him into the middle of next week. I've seen Tyson on the pads, and he looks sharp, but he's fifty-eight. Can he maintain it?
"At his age, your body isn't conditioned to take the punishment that will be coming back to you. As for Jake Paul, if he were to knock him out, he'd be knocking out one of his heroes.
"How could he live with that on his conscience? It doesn't matter how much money is involved, how would you be able to look at yourself in the ?
"I think it's completely crazy. It's a joke. I don't mind the exhibition fights when the matchups are even, but this one is on another level completely."
