Tyson Fury urged to retire if he beats Oleksandr Usyk in mega-fight: "Hang up the gloves"

Tyson Fury has been urged to retire if he defeats Oleksandr Usyk for the undisputed heavyweight championship this weekend by legendary British fighter Ricky Hatton

The Gypsy King takes on Usyk bidding to become the first undisputed champ in the weightclass for quarter of a century. Usyk currently holds WBA, WBO and IBF heavyweight titles.

The duo face-off in Saudi Arabia in Saturday and are set for a rematch regardless of who loses their undefeated record. Hatton believes victory over Usyk would secure Fury's legacy in the world of boxing, and even a fight with Anthony Joshua should not prove tempting.

The Hitman suggest it would be unnecessary for his 35-year-old friend to continue to put himself at risk in the ring. Fury would become the best ever British heavyweight in his mind.

Hatton told Lord Ping : "We know about the rematch clause in the contract, and then there are all the whispers about Tyson and AJ finally getting it on, but if Tyson beats Usyk, then I don’t think anyone can question his legacy in the sport.

"At that stage of his career, after beating Usyk, what is there really for Tyson to prove? There is nothing more for Tyson to achieve. British boxing fans would love the AJ fight, but there are a few hurdles to overcome if it were to happen.

"If he beats Usyk, he will go down as the best British heavyweight in history. At that stage, I’d like to see my mate hang up the gloves and enjoy the fruits of his labour with his family. He’s worked so hard for his entire career; he’s overcome some huge obstacles. There’s nothing left to prove.‌

Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk are set to lock horns in a huge bout on May 18 with each fighter attempting to etch their name in boxing history as the first undisputed heavyweight champion since 1999. The stakes couldn't be higher as the pair will go head to head for the prestigious WBC, WBA, WBO, and IBF titles.

"I don’t want to see my mate continuing to fight and putting himself in environments where he might get hurt."

With Fury set for a rematch with Usyk, any prospective fight against Joshua would appear to be on pause. 'AJ' was promised a shot after knocking out Francis Ngannou in March but is expected to return to action in September against mandatory world title challenger Filip Hrgovic.

Safe to say that Fury is confident in his chances in any potential bout with his rival. "Styles make fights and my style for him is kryptonite," he said.

"I’ve always said AJ is built to measure for me, just because he knocked out that guy with a right hand it’s not the same. His style is made for me, once we get through the rabbit then we go down for AJ."
