23XI Racing just opened its Airspeed facility, and team co-owner Michael Jordan was impressed with what he saw. On Tuesday, 23XI released a video of Jordan taking a tour of the facility, and he loved every minute of it.
In the video, Jordan took a tour of the weight room as well as the two conference rooms. The XI conference room includes co-owner Denny Hamlin’s memorabilia, while the 23 conference room includes a big “23” display with 45 pairs of Jordan shoes on it.
Jordan is also seen hugging Bubba Wallace who was the first driver to sign with 23XI Racing in 2020. And at the end of the video, Jordan told a group of people, “You keep winning, we keep improving.”
Last week, Hamlin spoke to NASCAR about the facility. “This is not a race shop. It’s a place that we work, yes, we put cars on the track, but it’s so much more than that,” Hamlin said. “Would you say sitting right here, we’re in a race shop? No, it certainly doesn’t feel that way. So I think what we were in — in Mooresville, in the old Germain (Racing) building — was a race shop and a garage. This is not. This is something that is different, and so it needs to be named appropriately.”
Hamlin also talked about how 23XI is committed to winning with the new headquarters. “I think Michael said it correctly that we are all-in on the sport,” Hamlin says, “and I think that if you walk through here, there’s no way you can question that. From the performance that we’ve put on the race track to what we’ve built here, I can’t imagine anyone coming in in three years, and spending this kind of investment to be all-in on the sport.”
Having Jordan as a co-owner for 23XI Racing is big for NASCAR. In April, Hamlin talked about what Jordan brings to the table as a team owner.
“It’s hard to say what he brings other than the affiliation of being with the greatest athlete in the world,” Hamlin said on his Actions Detrimental podcast. “He’s obviously got some business relationships as well that he brings to the table. One thing I definitely love about him is that any ask, and I try not ask him to do too much, but he understands when I do ask him to do something, that it’s important. And he can turn it on at the right time with the right people. He’s always curious when we do have VIP meet and greets. He wants to know their names, who are they with, what’s their affiliation, what’s their job, like he cares.”
