Bronny James will reportedly be unavailable for his second game of the summer.

Per Mike Trudell, James won’t play in the Lakers’ matchup with Golden State Warriors on Sunday. It will be a precautionary decision due to the quick weekend turnaround with some trace swelling taking place in his left knee.

However, with it just being preventative, Trudell added that the expectation is that James will return to the floor for their next game against the Miami Heat on Wednesday.

James debuted on Saturday in a 108-94 loss for the Los Angeles Lakers to the Sacramento Kings. He started and played for just under 22 minutes in a lineup that included LA’s other draft pick from this offseason in Dalton Knecht. In that time, he put up four points, two rebounds, two assists, and a steal. He did so on poor night in efficiency at 2-9 from the field, including missing all three attempts from distance, and both chances at the free throw line.

That was the first game for Los Angeles in the California Classic in San Francisco. They’ll play later today versus the Warriors and Wednesday against the Heat. That’s before they’ll then head to Las Vegas for the official NBA2K25 Summer League. They’ll play four guaranteed games there from July 12th through the 19th before the final bracket takes place from the 20th through the 22nd.

Fans at the Chase Center were excited to get to watch the storyline of James for three games. Instead, though, it’ll now be at most two with him missing his second contest.

LeBron James: Playing with son in NBA is ‘a dream come true’

LeBron James will do something else this upcoming season that no one has ever done in the NBA. He will play alongside his son, Bronny, after the Los Angeles Lakers selected him in as a second rounder in the 2024 NBA Draft.

Throughout his career, James talked about how much it would mean to suit up alongside his oldest son. Now that it’s reality, he’s still struggling to find the words.

“With my son, obviously, it’s a dream come true for me,” James told reporters at the USA Basketball showcase in Las Vegas on Saturday. “To see my son – to be able to be in the NBA alone, it’s always been a dream of his. For us to be side-by-side a lot of words [are] lost, to be honest.”

James further reflected on Bronny’s journey and said it added to the special nature of the moment.

“The kid has worked so hard to get to this point,” James said. “There’s just so much that’s happened over the last year with him. To have this happen less than a year from his incident? To be with our friends and our family when they announced his name? It was something that was super surreal. Our family still doesn’t even have enough words to explain the feeling that we have. Just such a great kid and I’m looking forward to seeing his progression and him continuing to get better and better as he continues to grow as a young man.”
