The vibes are high in Minnesota ahead of Wednesday’s NBA Western Conference Finals opener. Governor Tim Walz is a perfect example.
The Timberwolves are preparing to start the best of seven series against the Dallas Mavericks, and an Anthony Edwards phrase is taking over the fan base. After Minnesota came back to defeat the Denver Nuggets on Sunday, he told Charles Barkley to “Bring ya ass” to the Twin Cities for the series when he said he hadn’t been there in 20 years.
Walz declared Wednesday “Wolves Back Day” with a proclamation. But if you look closely at it, you’ll see he worked a troll of Barkley into the announcement, spelling out “Bring ya ass” with the first letter of each paragraph.
Walz wasn’t the only person to run with the “Bring ya ass” response. The state’s tourism department ran a promotion around it and got a hold of the domain name BringYaAss.com, which redirected to its website.
Barkley also had some fun with the phrase on Wednesday, wearing a hat that featured the phrase prominently. He, along with the Inside The NBA crew, are on site for each game of the conference finals – which start at the Target Center Wednesday night.
The Timberwolves have become the story of the NBA this season, fueled by Edwards’ electrifying performances. He also continues to go viral for his postgame comments, and the response to the NBA legend was the latest such instance.
During the series against the Nuggets, Edwards let another NSFW phrase slip during a press conference after Minnesota’s Game 6 victory in Minneapolis. He apparently told members of the Denver staff he’d see them for the final game of the series.
However, he used another word in there.
“They know. Y’all was in there,” Edwards said, via Awful Announcing. “I told ’em. I said, ‘I’ll see y’all ************* for Game 7.’”
Many basketball analysts are declaring Edwards the new “face of the league” given his showing on the big stage and charisma off the court, and he’s getting his chance to prove he can win the big one as the playoffs go along. The first two games of the series will be in Minnesota before it shifts to Dallas for two games. From there, if needed, it the Timberwolves will host Games 5 and 7 while the Mavericks get Game 6 as part of the 2-2-1-1-1 format.
