Anthony Joshua makes feelings clear on Eddie Hearn's friendship with Frank Warren

Anthony Joshua believes rival promoters Eddie Hearn and Frank Warren have a "fake" relationship.

Matchroom Boxing boss Hearn and Queensbury Promotions chief Warren didn't speak to each other face-to-face for 15 years but that ended when they co-promoted the Day of Reckoning event last December. Saudi boxing chief Turki Alalshikh made the promoters ditch their feud to work together on the same card and they have since continued to do so.

Joshua gave a damning assessment of their forced friendship when he told The Stomping Ground: “It’s good but it’s pretty fake to me. What’s my opinion, what does it matter? They don’t really like each other, but they come together to do business. Money talks and the simplicity of it, it does. It’s good business."

Warren earned bragging rights over Hearn earlier this month with a whitewash result at the Queensbury vs Matchroom 5vs5 event in Saudi Arabia. Hearn claimed that whilst he didn't want to work with Warren when the idea was first presented to him, their relationship is now authentic.

"I can get why he [Joshua] says that because he’s not really been around us," Hearn said. "I said to Frank earlier it was like six or seven months since we first met backstage and that was fake because we were told by His Excellency to get on with it, work together and stop the arguments. We said ‘Alright then’, reluctantly.

"The relationship from there has blossomed. It’s become very enjoyable and it’s very beneficial for our companies but more importantly our fighters. Not just me and Frank, but Spencer Brown built this card up until midnight last night [Tuesday]. We’ve all done a great job."

Joshua looks to become a three-time heavyweight champion when he fights newly-crowned IBF champion Daniel Dubois on September 21 at Wembley Stadium. Dubois was promoted from interim to full champion after Oleksandr Usyk gave up the title and, in doing so, lost his undisputed status.
