Jake Paul vs Mike Perry prize money: How much will fighters earn?

View16comment0

Jake Paul is set to earn another big purse tonight when he returns to the ring against Mike Perry - but it could have been so much more.

Paul should be taking on heavyweight boxing legend Mike Tyson in front of 80,000 fans in Texas tonight but Tyson was forced to postpone the bout until November after suffering an ulcer flare-up. Should the fight take place later this year, Paul is expected to earn a career-high pay which will likely run into the tens of millions of dollars.

But that cheque could disappear if he fails to beat Perry tonight after the bare-knuckle boxer and former UFC star stepped in to replace Tyson at short notice. Paul is the bookmakers' favourite to defeat Perry who is fighting in just his second professional boxing fight. Paul has already seen off the challenge of former UFC fighters Ben Askren, Tyron Woodley, Anderson Silva and Nate Diaz.

Perry has forged an unbeaten record of 5-0 in bare-knuckle boxing, including wins over former UFC champions Eddie Alvarez and Luke Rockhold. And he ha said he will earn a similar amount tonight as he has for his fights with BKFC, around $600,000, but hopes to see that boosted by strong pay-per-view sales.

"It's not bad. It's right on cue with BKFC. Nothing crazy," he said. "It depends, there are a lot of streamers out there. I'm hoping the pay-per-view does well and that people buy the show because DAZN be a little pricey out there sometimes. But we are out there working for that money so buy the event and I'll give you the fight you want to see, I'm going to do that regardless.

"The money is right there with BKFC with me and I've already established and set myself and my family up Now I can have fun, now I can enjoy the fight and put on a show and try to be the best 'Platinum' Mike Perry the world has ever seen."

Paul is believed to have earned several million dollars for his last two fights, facile first-round knockouts of Andre August and Ryan Bourland. That was a far cry from the $30million Paul claimed he earned for fighting Tommy Fury last year, a fight he lost by split-decision. Taking to social media, Paul posted a video of himself partying after the fight with the caption: "When you lost but made $30m."
